The 1st model of the STAR Reserve snare series was developed to attain unparalleled sensitivity and response for drummers. We combined a solid maple shell with a slightly sharper Starclassic bearing edge and 8-lug Brass Sound Arc hoops to create an ultra- sensitive, clear and bright tone. It also features our newly developed STAR Tube Lugs w/lug nuts for articulate tuning. Supersensitive Hi-Carbon Snare Wires for concert models complete the package, featuring a thin brass plate and softer hi-carbon coils that respond to even the softest touch on the edge of the batter head.

All of a sudden, your go-to phrasing is out the window and you're heading down a new path, playing patterns you'd typically not even attempt. We feel this is exactly what we've accomplished with our 8" x 15" STAR Reserve snare drum.

Its combination of Bubinga/Maple hybrid shell and Brass Mighty hoops provides a thunderous backbeat, while maintaining a great tonal balance of low and high end frequencies. No matter how you tune this drum, its presence is clearly heard and felt. Some of our artists even tune this drum very low and place it where a first floor tom would traditionally be, in addition to a main snare in standard position. This can lead to many unique phrasing opportunities. In this position, the drum functions as a "low snare" with the snare wires engaged, but with the wires off, it can double as a floor tom.

The hybrid shell of Bubinga and Walnut with Maple Sound Focus Rings creates a solid, tight, and resonant tone. The beautiful Claro Walnut exterior ply lacquered in black see-through gloss adds to the elegance of the snare drum. It also features Sound Arc Hoop and our newly developed STAR Tube Lugs w/lug nuts for accurate tuning.

The STAR Drums series' first metal snare features a hand hammered copper shell. In addition to a mid-low end with tons of volume, the hand hammered shell creates a deeply harmonic overtone. A slightly smaller diameter hammer is used on the edge of the shell compared with the hammer that is used on the center, causing the shell to take a barrel shape.
This unique shape provides a fat sound and rich resonance. To complement the shell, we used our original 2.3mm brass "Customized Flanged Hoop". The edge of this hoop is slightly shaved down compared to our standard flanged hoop, producing a sharper and brighter attack. The combination of these two different characteristics – warm, rich resonance with sharp, bright attack - offers a totally new and original sound, unlike any other metal snares.

The 5th model of STAR Reserve snare drum is made of Jatoba wood. This hard and dense wood is cut precisely into 16 stave pieces and then formed into a 10mm thick shell. In addition, 3 large vent holes are cut into the shell. These holes make the attack more open and projected, and are a great combination with Stave Jatoba’s powerful sound. Last but not least, the STAR series standard specs; Die-Cast hoops and Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snare Wire add sensitivity and enhance the projection.
